How to survive the rain!!

You look at the weather forecast for the week, and it is showing nothing but rain for the next few days, then you take a look at Buddy's face, eager to go outside and you are filled with more dread than getting up at 5.00am in the middle of winter!! Dog walking at it's worst (or best depending on your favourite climates)!!

With the right gear, walking outside in the rain shouldn't be all dread. All you need is some waterproof trainers or (preferably) boots, a pair of waterproof trousers and a waterproof jacket! There are plenty of good waterproofs coats for your pup too, so you need not get too wet! As Alfred Wainwright said, 'there's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing'!!

When we get home from a wet winter walk, my Spaniel loves to wear her HOTTERdog fleece jumper to keep warm and dry off quickly.

Also, choose where your walk wisely!! Large open spaces are great for a mild winters day, or a lovely clear sunny (though not too hot) day, but not so good when its raining and/or windy! So pick somewhere with plenty of tree cover, your local woods or common is great for this, the trees providing you with some much needed shelter (obviously you will still get wet but it will help lessen the drops).

Failing above, or if you just don't have the time to fit in your normal walk and blow dry your hair to salon perfection before that all important meeting, call your dog walker!! We will help you out.

Some of my clients book daily or weekly walks, but I am more than happy to take last minute or ad hoc appointments. As rest assured, I will still be out no matter what the weather brings us! Though of course, some of you may have a dog who is also a fair weather walker (you lucky things), in which case, sit back, relax and put your feet up!

If you have any tips for keeping dry, share away :-)
